The following are some of the more important events of interest to clansfolk and visitors to Scotland in 1975.
The Colonial Highland Gathering on Saturday, June 7, 1975, under the auspices of the Scottish Games Association of Delaware, Inc., USA, will have a new competition in piping with a permanent trophy to be known as The Clan Donald Award for excellence in Piobaireachd. The contestants will be chosen by invitation from winners of other recognised competitions. First prize will be a silver replica of the permanent trophy and will include a money prize of 250 dollars. The second place will carry with it a money prize of 150 dollars and third place will be a prize of 75 dollars. The permanent trophy is a one-off Kind Quaich produced by Hamilton and Inches of George Street, Edinburgh and was presented by the Chieftain of the Gathering, Ellice McDonald Jr, The Chief of Glengarry will be the honoured guest of the Gathering.
